Accor has announced plans to launch the first property in its Orient Express brand in the Pantheon district of Rome, Italy. Slated to open in 2023, the hotel will occupy the site of the former Hotel de la Minerva located off the Piazza de la Minerva. The historic property, which was first constructed in the 17th century, will maintain many of its design signatures, including Roman columns in the lobby and sculptures by Rinaldo Rinaldi. A panoramic terrace overlooking the dome of the Pantheon and other landmarks will also be preserved.
Furthermore, the Orient Express Rome will honor its namesake, with an ethos conceived in homage to the European golden age of travel. Additional outposts for the brand are currently under negotiation in London, Paris, Milan, and Florence.
“For the past 150 years, Orient Express has been sublimating the art of travel with its luxury trains, its unique experiences and its collections of rare objects,” says Guillaume de Saint Lager, vice president of Orient Express. “Today, a new era is beginning, the launch of a collection of hotels that are unique in the world in one of the most romantic capitals of Europe. It is the perfect place to write the next chapters of the Orient Express story.”
