The Londoner is slated to make its highly anticipated debut this September in the English capital. Spread across 16 stories, the “super boutique” hotel draws upon cheeky British humor, as well as the legacy of its setting through an elegant design by Yabu Pushelberg. “The Londoner was designed to play into the roots of Leicester Square as London’s historic theatre district,” says Yabu Pushelberg cofounder George Yabu. “We created layers of programming up into the sky and deep into the earth that emphasize this extraverted, alluring, playful voice.”
A robust onsite art collection will instill an eclectic character across the hotel’s guestrooms and public spaces, spotlighting a variety of media and eras. The Londoner will also convey its refined taste with the Residence, a 24-hour private members club suited to host work and play. The Residence will also comprise Y Bar and the Drawing Room, two F&B options for intimate spirits and dining, as well as the 14-seat jewelbox-inspired parlor known as the Whisky Room. All-day Mediterranean eatery Whitcomb’s nods to the life of a screenwriter, poetically layered to instill a unique storyline across the space with whimsical details like the harvest table.
“The hotel is an homage to performance, with each public space imbued with the character of someone essential for bringing a production to life,” adds Glenn Pushelberg. Opulence will abound at the lobby concept, the Stage, while Joshua’s Tavern will be nestled into the corner of the property, as a convivial hub for guests and neighbors. Finally, 8 at the Londoner will crown the hotel as its decadent rooftop izakaya lounge.
An entire floor of the hotel will be dedicated to the Retreat, the wellness ecosystem home to amenities like a fitness center, barber, blow dry bar, nail bar, and pool. Refuel will also serve as the Retreat’s F&B venue. Among the onsite meeting and event spaces, the ballroom will boast a pillarless 6,000-square-foot venue that can accommodate more than 800 guests.
Highlights among the 350 accommodations are the 2,150-square-foot Tower Penthouse duplex suite and the 1,280-square-foot Trafalgar suites, which comprise a living room, kitchenette, and foyer. A traditional British sensibility will define the Londoner’s guestrooms and suites, expressed through a minimal neutral palette, abundant natural light, and high-tech perks. Headboards will be installed as artful focal points that depict scenery from nature to further promote comfort.
“One of the things we cherish most about the Londoner is the incredible layer of styling we were able to apply to each and every space,” Pushelberg says. “The Londoner served as a one-of-a-kind canvas to fully explore our stylistic creativity.”
