citizenM continues its tour of global domination with the opening of its first outpost in California. The citizenM LA Downtown will open this month ahead of the brand’s second California opening in San Francisco later in 2021. Totaling 11 stories, the 315-room hotel reimagines its façade as a public gallery with windows that serve as a backdrop for large-scale Polaroids showcasing portraits of Los Angeles locals.
Amsterdam-based design studio concrete collaborated with citizenM once again to put a localized spin on its eclectic, modern brand. The lobby living room greets visitors with a large mural by German-born, Los Angeles-based visual artist Friedrich Kunath, while books, modern furniture, and objets d’art punctuate the space with character.
Art continues to serve as a focal point in guestrooms, which are equipped with king beds and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame vistas as well. “These rooms are perfectly optimized for relaxation,” says citizenM CMO Robin Chadha. “Our team worked with LA-based curator Lauren Mackler to develop a collection of in-room works that feels distinctly Los Angeles and features artists Alex Olson, Paul Pescador, Eve Fowler, Alex Chaves, and Kathryn Andrews.”
Amenities will include a collectionM retail space, five societyM meeting areas, and a fitness center on the 10th floor linked to a large terrace that overlooks the city.
