IoH CEO Robert Richardson FIH named ‘Industry Titan’ in The Boutique Hotelier Power List 2022

IoH CEO Robert Richardson FIH named ‘Industry Titan’ in The Boutique Hotelier Power List 2022

Our IoH CEO Robert Richardson FIH has been named an ‘Industry Titan’ in the newly published Boutique Hotelier Power List 2022.

The list, which is an annual celebration of the movers and shakers considered to be aspirational Hospitality Industry figures and are driving real change in the sector, also recognises individuals who are aspiring their businesses to new heights.

Receiving the news, Robert confirmed: “It is a huge, and unexpected, honour to be featured in the Boutique Hotelier Power List 2022, and to be noted as an ‘Industry Titan’ is a tremendous show of faith, for which I am truly humbled. What makes the Power List particularly special is that it is based on nominations from our hospitality family, so thank you, everyone.”

Explaining why Robert had established himself as an ‘Industry Titan’, The Boutique Hotelier Power List noted: ‘Robert Richardson was named a Young Trailblazer in our 2020 Power List and in just two short years has risen to Industry Titan status. In spring 2021, he assumed the role of CEO at the Institute of Hospitality and was tasked with making the Institute more relevant for the post-pandemic age. With a huge focus on Diversity and Inclusion, Richardson’s initiatives included devising a youth council to inspire entry-level talent and the launch of ‘Future Forum’ – a group that builds best employment practices for persons with disabilities and people who have disadvantages such as ex-offenders.

‘However, Richardson’s biggest achievement is building a funded bursary for Institute of Hospitality membership, targeting industry talent who through financial or personal disadvantage are unable to join the Institute and access the career development this provides. Funding now supports 250 members in its first year.’

About the Institute of Hospitality

The Institute of Hospitality is the only leading, charitable international professional membership body for current and aspiring leaders and managers in the hospitality industry. Established in 1938, the Institute is a registered UK charity (number: 326180) that aims to promote professionalism through lifelong learning and the development of outstanding leaders.

We promote exacting standards and quality in hospitality management education and training through our accreditation and endorsement schemes. Corporate, academic, and individual members receive help from access to professional development programmes including live webinars, podcasts, publications, access to learning resources, events, and other networking opportunities. Students and educators receive help from the Institute’s support for academic careers, and our work to provide context to the curriculum.

The Institute of Hospitality has established internationally recognised professional credentials (Fellow, Member, Associate, and Affiliate) for our members. We are currently working towards Chartered Institute status.

The IoH has regional branches throughout the UK as well as several overseas branches. We were named Gold Winner in the Best Membership Organisation (over 10,000 members) category at the National Association Awards 2021. We launched our own dedicated Youth Council for aspiring hospitality leaders and managers in July 2021 and won the national UK & Ireland Chartered Governance Institute awards, in the Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year 2021 category in November 2021, for our Youth Council and Diversity Shield campaign. The Institute is a member of the Bank of England Decision Maker Panel regarding the impact of national and international events on the economy.
